Bible Study Hour
Lee Brumfield, Sunday School
Superintendent
Research shows that churches with a strong Sunday School and
Christian Education Program tend to have more people who demonstrate a strong
and vibrant faith. Fewer of their young people drop out of church or become
involved in spiritually risky activities.
We
at Crossroads believe that Sunday School provides and effective structure in
which people of all ages can "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ". (2 Peter 3:18, NIV).
At Crossroads, Sunday School classes are offered for all ages,
using biblically based literature. Presently we have fourteen classes
across all age groups. Our Sunday School ministry program is led by
dedicated teachers who combined have over 50 years in teaching ministry.
Our Children's Department
emphasizes
scripture memorization that our children, as David testified, "might hide God's
Word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." (Psalms 119 verse 11,
NIV) All of us have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments in
memorization monthly during Kids First" activities.
Our Youth and Adult classes seek to meet the needs that all
adults, young and old, religious and secular, seek to fill:
1. The need for intimacy: We live basically as
strangers, isolated in the cocoons of our own situations. The Sunday School provides an environment which gives us the
love and support of a small group. We are treated as important family
members.
2. The need to make consistent choices: Life
requires daily decisions. Some are minor, others important. Making
decisions is part of what it means to grow up and certainly as an adult many of
our decisions involve ethical choices. In a world of confusing and
contradictory moral perspectives, honest people ask, "How should I live?"
The Sunday School provides a forum to address the ethical choices we must all
make, offering God's Word as an unchanging foundation. As we study His
Word weekly, He speaks to us and provides a "light unto our path".
3. The need for personal reflection:
Life is busy; a
cliché that is also true.
Time
is scarce to genuinely reflect and consider life's ultimate issues. The
study of God's Word, more than anything else, can help us to face challenges and
issues we all must.

By: Lee Brumfield,
Sunday School Superintendent
Not too long ago, in one of my all too
frequent trips to Bert Allen to have my car serviced (at least it has 167,000
miles!), while waiting around, came across in a salesroom a picture of a stern
looking gentleman with the following quotation: "If you don't know who I am,
where I live, and won't contact me---- What makes you think you're going to
sell me my next car? WOW! If having a relationship with someone is
that important in order to have a better chance just to sell a car--- how
important must it be in asking someone about their relationship with Jesus, or
inviting them to Sunday School--- or church? Truly it doesn't matter what we
preach, teach, sing, etc. unless it is clear that love is at the heart of
everything done. Proverbs 18:24 states, "A man that has friends must show
himself friendly" Relationships are at the heart of our Sunday School-- an
opportunity to get to know others in a Christ-centered setting while studying
His word. Come get to know someone new this week in one of our classes at
Crossroads.
May God richly
bless you for taking this very important ministry at Crossroads.
